Kim led the Hobart in its opening weekend of its inaugural season to a 2-1 record, defeating SUNY Potsdam in three sets and Wells College in four sets, before falling to Nichols in four sets. Kim, the reigning AVCA National Player of the Year, appeared in the Statesmen's first two matches against the Bears and the Bison, recording 45 kills with only 11 errors for a .420 hitting percentage. His 24 kills against Nichols tied his career high and put him three kills away from notching his 1,000th career kill. Kim added 14 digs, seven assists, five service aces and one solo block between the two matches. He leads the UVC in kills per set with 6.43 and points per set with 7.29 after one week.
