Jacob Kim opened the season with three strong matches for Vassar at the California Lutheran University Invitational, finishing with 31 kills and an impressive .411 hitting percentage, 40 assists, 16 digs, eight blocks and two aces in three matches, including two against nationally-ranked foes. In the victory over Adrian, Kim tallied 11 winners, eight assists, six digs and a block while hitting .529 while recording seven kills, 17 assists, three digs and five blocks in a sweep over No. 14 UC Santa Cruz. He finished the weekend with 13 kills, 15 assists, seven digs and two blocks in a four-set loss to No. 12 Cal Lutheran.
