No. 1 Vassar Defeats MIT in UVC Semifinals to Extend Winning Streak to 22 Matches

Vassar will host St. John Fisher in the UVC Championship match at 2 pm on April 16

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The top-ranked Vassar men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to 22 matches after a three-set victory over No. 4 seed MIT (ranked 15th nationally) in the UVC Semifinal match from Kenyon Hall on Saturday afternoon. Vassar will face No. 3 seed St. John Fisher in the UVC Championship match at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 16.

Vassar, who entered the match as the top-hitting team in Division III, recorded a scorching .449 hitting percentage over the first two sets as the Brewers earned 25-18 and 25-19 wins. Facing elimination and four match points, MIT roared back from 24-21 down in the third set to score four straight points to go up 25-24. With a fourth set looming, Vassar responded with three straight points to earn a 27-25 set win and match victory.

Andrew Kim, the 2023 UVC Player of the Year, hit .407 with a match-high 15 kills, seven digs and three service aces. Gavin van Beveren hit .800 with eight kills, while Jacob Kim dished out 37 assists.

Grant Oh led MIT with nine kills, while Max Turner dished out 30 assists for MIT, who finished their season with a 16-14 record.

St. John Fisher knocked off No. 2 seed New Paltz in four sets in the second UVC Semifinal. Vassar defeated St. John Fisher in three sets earlier in the regular season on Feb. 24.
