Below are the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Players of the Week, released on January 27, 2025, for matches played from January 20-January 26. It is the third UVC weekly honors release of the 2025 season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Emerson Evans, NYU, So., OH, Huntington Beach, CA/Edison
Evans helped lead the No. 2-ranked Violets to three victories during the week. NYU defeated Hunter on Thursday and both New Jersey City and Arcadia on Saturday. He hit .475 on the week with 34 kills and 14 digs, while recording 4.28 points per set. Against Hunter, Evans hit .818 and recorded a team-high nine kills on only 11 attempts, while adding a team-high five digs. On Saturday, he again had team highs of 12 kills and six digs, while adding two blocks, an ace, and an assist against NJCU. Against Arcadia, Evans totaled a match-high 13 kills to go with three digs, two aces and a block. He leads the Violets with 76 kills and is hitting .418 on the season through six matches.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Nikko Tenedorio, SUNY New Paltz, Fr., OH, Bayshore, NY/Bayshore
Tenedorio averaged 4.5 kills and 5.0 points per set and hit .556, while leading the Hawks to a pair of wins on Saturday. He led the Hawks to a four-set win over Poly, leading the way with a match-high 14 kills, hitting a productive .478 with an ace and four digs for a match-high 15 points. In one set played in a win over Houghton, Tenedorio had four kills on four attempts for a perfect hitting percentage while adding an assist and an ace.
CO-ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Shawn Zheng, MIT, Fr., OH, Littleton, CO/Heritage
Zheng hit .477 with 24 kills and blocks during the week, averaging 2.4 kills and 2.7 points per set, as No. 6 Vassar went 3-0 on the week with wins over SUNY Potsdam, No. 19 Nichols, and Ramapo. Zheng posted five kills and hit .500 and two blocks in a sweep over Potsdam before adding a season-best 12 kills (.385) and two blocks in four-set win over the Bison. Zheng closed the weekend with seven kills on a .750 hitting percentage and two blocks in a sweep of Ramapo.
