St. John Fisher Earns First League Win Of Season With Sweep Over MIT

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The No. 14 St. John Fisher University men's volleyball team swept No. 20 MIT and Russell Sage on Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Cage to improve to 12-1 overall. 

Match 1: No. 14 St. John Fisher 3, No. 20 MIT 0

  • The Cardinals took the first set 25-19, the second 25-20 and the third 25-19 in their first United Volleyball Conference match of the season. 

  • Freshman Coleton Welter led the Cardinals with 10 kills, while senior Ian Rauh had nine and freshman Evan Hernandez tallied five.

  •  Rauh finished with a .462 hitting percentage, the highest mark on the team (min. five attack attempts). He also recorded a season-high six blocks. 

  • Senior setter Gavin Newman tallied a match-high 24 assists. He also had three kills and five digs. 

  • Senior libero Trace Larobardiere led Fisher with a match-high 11 digs. 

  • The Cardinals had nine blocks in the match, their second-most in a match this season. 

  • Casey Jackson, Aidan Calhoun and Rauh accounted for all six of Fisher's service aces (two apiece). 

Match 2: No. 14 St. John Fisher 3, Russell Sage 0

  • The Cardinals won the first set 25-19, the second 25-17 and the third 25-22 for their fourth consecutive match victory. 

  • Sophomore Sonepith Keoviengsamay led the way for the Cardinals with nine kills, a total that matched his career high. He finished with a .438 hitting percentage and also tallied two blocks and a service ace. 

  • Senior Tyler Cohen had seven kills; junior Gabe Larobardiere had six while hitting .500. 

  • Junior Jimmy Roberts recorded five kills and posted a team-high .700 hitting percentage. Sophomore Connor Holmes also tallied five kills. 

  • Sophomore Guillermo Perez recorded a career-high four service aces. 

  • Senior Evan Ingerick tallied a match-high 19 assists and 15 digs. 

  • Ingerick, Holmes and senior Sam Shutt had two blocks apiece.
