NYU Tops New Jersey City in Three Sets for Third Sweep of Season

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The #8-ranked New York University men's volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory over New Jersey City University on Thursday, February 26. The Violets were dominant in each set, winning by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-14.

NYU never trailed in the opening set after getting out to a 5-2 lead. Later up 8-6, the Violets pulled away with a 7-1 run.

Though the Gothic Knights cut the deficit to as little as five at one point, NYU maintained control the entire way and took the frame, 25-18.

The two teams traded points to begin the second set as the Violets led 9-8 through the first 17 rallies. NJCU then continued to stay in striking distance, bringing the score to 15-14.

However, a 9-2 NYU run put the Violets on the doorstep of clinching the set. Despite the Gothic Knights defending five straight set points, Emerson Evans put the frame away with a kill.

Another set in which NYU never trailed, the Violets raced out to an 8-0 advantage in the third. NYU led by as much as 11 in the frame and comfortably closed out the match with a 25-14 set win.

Evans led the attack with 12 kills on an efficient .409 hitting. He also added nine digs and three serving aces. Devyn Nguyen dished out a match-high 33 assists.

NYU will next return to its home court with a non-conference matchup against the Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday, March 3, at the John A. Paulson Center.
