DUDLEY, MA - The Vassar College Men's Volleyball team cruised to its second straight sweep on Friday evening as the Brewers defeated Nichols, 25-23, 25-12, 25-15, in non-conference road action. Vassar's record improves to 11-8 overall while the Bison drop to 12-11 on the season.
First Set
- Vassar pulled ahead 4-1 to start the set following a kill apiece from junior Walter Birnbaum, junior Enzo Bertini and sophomore Petar Miocinovic.
- The lead grew to 9-4 on two kills from junior Armaan Desai and one winner from Miocinovic.
- Nichols battled back to take a 12-11 lead behind kills from Connor Snow, Adam Vincent and Emmett Jackson.
- VC regained the lead at 15-14 on a Bertini service ace until the Bison pulled back in front 16-15 on a Snow kill.
- Vassar collected a 18-16 lead, capped by a kill from junior Parker Schoenl, until Nichols evened it at 18 on a Vincent kill.
- Nichols rallied to take a 23-21 lead on winners from Evan Sachs and Vincent before the Brewers scored the final four points of the set as kills from Desai and senior James Zuckerman propelled VC to a 25-23 set win.
Second Set
- The Bison took a 6-4 lead to open the second set as Jackson and Matt Hand combined for a block along with a solo block from Snow.
- VC rattled off a 5-1 run to go ahead 10-8 following a kill and two aces from Miocinovic along with a winner each from Birnbaum and Desai.
- The Brewers expanded the advantage to 16-10 behind two Bertini kills, a solo block from Miocinovic and a winner each from Zuckerman, Desai and Birnbaum.
- Another five-point run from VC gave the Brewers a 21-11 lead as Bertini, Miocinovic and Birnbaum each buried a kill.
- Vassar tallied the final four points of the set on kills from Miocinovic and Birnbaum and a solo block from sophomore Shawn Zheng.
Third Set
- Vassar surged ahead for a 8-2 lead as Miocinovic recorded two kills, first year Kaden Chen landed an ace and Desai and Zheng combined for a block.
- Nichols got within 12-6 after kills from Vincent and Sachs before Vassar built the lead to 17-8 on two Miocinovic kills and a winner from Bertini.
- The Bison got back within seven at 20-13 on a kill from KG Bennett and a winner from Vincent.
- VC completed the sweep behind two kills from first year George Idowu, a block from Birnbaum and Idowu and an ace from Birnbaum.
For The Brewers
- Miocinovic posted 10 kills (.412), two aces and two blocks while Birnbaum recorded 10 kills, an ace, two blocks and nine digs.
- Zuckerman totaled six kills and two blocks along with Bertini registering six kills, an ace and two digs.
- Desai chipped in six kills (.545) while Schoenl finished with 28 assists, two kills and six digs.
- Zheng added two kills and three blocks along with first year Darwin Davis lifting a career-high 12 digs.
For The Bison
- Vincent registered six kills and six digs while Sachs tallied four kills, 18 assists and six digs.
- Jackson added three kills and a block along with Snow posting three kills and two blocks.
