First-year outside hitter Nate Toth of the MIT men’s volleyball team was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Men’s Volleyball National Player of the Week on Tuesday, April 14. Toth is the second UVC student-athlete to garner National Player of the Week honors in 2026, joining teammate Braden Baker, who was honored on March 10.
Toth was named Most Valuable Player of the 2026 UVC Championship Tournament, hitting .352 with 40 kills, 25 digs, four blocks and three service aces as the second-seeded Engineers defeated No. 3 seed NYU (ranked ninth nationally) and top-seed SUNY Paltz (ranked seventh nationally), both in four sets to win the UVC Championship for the first time in program history.
Toth began the tourney by recording season-high totals of 22 kills and 18 digs with a .404 hitting percentage and three blocks in the four-set win over two-time defending league champion NYU in the semifinals Saturday. On Sunday, Toth had a match-high 18 kills, seven digs and three service aces in the UVC Championship, a four-set win over New Paltz. Toth averaged 5.0 kills and 5.63 points per set in the two contests to garner his second UVC weekly honor of the season.
Toth is the fourth MIT student-athlete in program history to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors, since the program was started for Division III men's volleyball in 2000.
MIT, the 2026 UVC Champions, will take on St. Joseph's of Long Island in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament from Stevens at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
