Top-Seed SUNY New Paltz to Host 2026 United Volleyball Conference Championship Tournament from April 10-12

SUNY New Paltz, the No. 8-ranked team in the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball National Power Index, will host the six-team 2026 UVC Championship Tournament from the Hawk Center, with first round action beginning on Friday, April 10, the semifinals taking place on Saturday, April 11 and championship match on Sunday, April 12. The UVC Champion will receive an automatic berth into the 2026 NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship.
 
The Hawks earned the right to host after winning the 2026 UVC Regular Season title with a 6-1 mark in league play. MIT is the No. 2 seed, while two-time defending UVC Champion NYU is the No. 3 seed. Hobart College is the No. 4 seed, while Vassar College is the No. 5 seed and St. John Fisher University is the No. 6 seed.

SUNY New Paltz, ranked eighth nationally in the AVCA poll and No. 8 in the NPI, enters the tournament with a 21-6 overall record, having finished 6-1 in UVC competition. New Paltz is looking for its fourth UVC Championship and first since 2019. The Hawks enter the tournament having won 13 of their last 14 matches. Sophomore Nikko Tenedorio, the 2025 AVCA National Newcomer of the Year, leads the Hawks and is seventh in the UVC, averaging 3.05 kills per set and 3.58 points per set, while hitting .264. Matt Marusza is third in the league, averaging 8.35 assists per set, while Krish Jain is hitting .408 to go along with 0.73 blocks per set. Geoff Ndoria is hitting .342 with 209 kills on the season, while Matt Teplansky has 173. Daniel Shanley has added 514 assists and 0.46 service aces per set, third in the league. New Paltz won the 2016 and 2019 NCAA Division III Championships.
 
MIT, the No. 2 seed is looking to win its first UVC title. The Engineers are in the league tourney for the seventh time in program history and enter the tournament with a 20-7 record, ranked 15th nationally. MIT has a host of underclassmen leading the way, including sophomore Braeden Baker, who is sixth in the league, averaging 3.17 points and fifth with 3.71 points per set. First-year Nate Toth is right behind with 2.76 kills and 3.49 points per set, while hitting .295. He is also second in the UVC with 0.46 service aces per set. First-year Colin Zimmerman is second in the league in assists, averaging 9.36 assists per set. Matthew Louis is averaging 1.16 blocks per set, while Maddox Brandenburg and Michael Rini are averaging just under a block per set each.
 
NYU is attempting to win its third straight UVC Championship and fourth in program history. The third-seeded Violets, who are also ranked ninth in the AVCA National poll enter the tournament riding a 18-5 overall record, including a 5-2 mark in league play. NYU is also the No. 9 team in the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball National Power Index. Setter Devyn Nguyen leads all UVC student-athletes and is second nationally, averaging 10.31 assists per set. Emerson Evans leads the UVC in both kills and points per set. He is seventh nationally, averaging 4.14 kills per set and is tenth in Division III with 4.8 points per set. First-year Charlie Clifford is hitting .292 with 263 kills, while Bennet Tchaikovsky leads the league with 232 digs and 2.76 digs per set. Veer Agarwal is sixth in the UVC with 0.90 blocks per set.
 
Hobart is in the UVC Tournament for the third straight season, since starting the program in 2024. The fourth-seeded Statesmen enter the tournament with a 13-13 mark, having finished 5-2 in league play. Hobart held the No. 1 seed heading into its final UVC match of the regular season. The Statesmen have four student-athletes who have recorded between 184 and 198 kills on the season. Aiden Kemora leads Hobart with 198 kills, while Noah DeLong leads the team with 2.35 and 2.84 kills per set, while hitting .287. First-year Harry Fromberg has 190 kills, while Daniel Sappia has 184. Kian Kischke leads the league with 0.48 service aces per set and has added 0.87 blocks per set, while Gavin Meador is third in the conference, averaging 2.31 digs per set.
 
No. 5 seed Vassar, who advanced to the 2024 NCAA National Championship match, enters the tournament with a 17-9 overall record, having finished 3-4 in league play. The Brewers, who also advanced to the 2023 NCAA Semifinals, are the No. 19 team in the NCAA NPI. Junior Armaan Desai leads the UVC and is tenth nationally with a .422 hitting percentage. He also leads the league and is third in Division III, averaging 1.19 blocks per set. Henry Bonney is hitting .352 with 3.42 kills per set and 3.99 points per set, third in the UVC. Walter Birnbaum has a team-high 238 kills, while Parker Schoenl is sixth in the league, averaging 7.6 assists per set. Casey McMenamin is fourth in the UVC, averaging 2.24 digs per set.
 
St. John Fisher, the 2022 UVC Champions, enters the tournament with a 19-10 overall record, having finished 3-4 in league play. Gabe La Robardiere leads the team with 202 kills and is hitting .297, while first-year Avery Kielbasinski leads the team and is eighth in the conference with 2.93 points per set. Aiden Calhoun is among the league leaders in assists and service aces per set, while Luke Zimmerman is second in the conference with 2.69 digs per set and 218 total digs. Guillermo Perez leads the UVC with 90 blocks and is third with 0.96 blocks per set.
 
No. 3 NYU defeated No. 6 St. John Fisher in four sets on March 8, while fourth seeded Hobart knocked off No. 5 Vassar in five sets on Feb. 20. Looking ahead to the semifinals, Hobart defeated New Paltz in a five-set thriller on March 27, while the Hawks earned a three-set win over Vassar on Feb. 25, while No. 2 MIT defeated NYU in five sets on March 7 and fell in four sets on the road at St. John Fisher on March 27.
